The possibility of using a QR code in place of information on the packaging must be assessed in accordance with the applicable regulations in each country where the product is marketed. The information required for the proper management of packaging at the end of its life does not, in and of itself, constitute environmental claims within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2024/825, which defines such claims as messages and representations that are not mandatory. In Italy, in cases where there are actual physical and/or technological limitations to the physical affixing of environmental labeling on packaging, the information may also be made available through digital channels, such as a QR code, in accordance with the prescribed procedures. This option cannot be automatically extended to mandatory labels required in other countries; for those, it is necessary to verify the requirements for physical affixing and any applicable exemptions.
