The recyclability of the material must be assessed in the context in which the product or packaging is marketed (it is therefore necessary to communicate actual recyclability, not merely that it can be placed in separate collection). If no recycling technologies exist for that specific material or packaging, no claims regarding recyclability may be made. To support claims regarding recyclability, the company may also voluntarily cite compliance with the standard EN 13430:2004 “Packaging — Requirements for packaging recoverable for material recycling,” provided that this requirement has been verified and adequately demonstrated.
