FAQ

For recyclability claims, can the inclusion of a package in CONAI contribution bands (e.g., Plastic Packaging Contribution Band) that classify it as “recyclable” be used as documentary evidence?

Classification into CONAI contribution categories can help support a recyclability claim, provided that compliance with the category’s requirements and their relevance to the specific packaging and the claim made are documented. This classification is intended for contribution purposes only and does not constitute a certification of recyclability nor is it automatically sufficient evidence for any claim. Voluntary claims must be clear, specific, and verifiable and may be made with reference to UNI EN ISO 14021, in compliance with applicable regulations. The characteristics of the packaging must be considered, including components that may hinder its sorting or recycling, as well as the availability of collection, sorting, and recycling systems in the market to which the claim refers. Where necessary, the documentation must be supplemented with relevant technical assessments or tests. Any use of logos or trademarks that qualify as sustainability labels requires a certification system that complies with regulations or is established by public authorities.
